David Frederick joins LBMC as Senior Manager in the firm’s Wealth Advisory practice, where his focus is advising high net worth individuals on matters of estate planning, business succession planning and family wealth transfer. In his role, Frederick works with clients on solutions to mitigate estate, gift, and income taxes on sophisticated transactions, interpreting tax effects and compliance on complex trusts, and estate planning structures.
Frederick has more than 15 years of experience in complex wealth and estate planning, business succession, mergers and acquisitions, due diligence, and business restructuring, both as in-house counsel and practicing attorney. Frederick holds his Juris Doctorate and LL.M. in Taxation from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Missouri, is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Truman State University and earned his Master of Science in Economic History from The London School of Economics. Frederick serves as an adjunct professor at Washington University, where he has taught Law and Economics, Economic History and American Legal History for 14 years.
Frederick is a nationally recognized thought leader, author and media resource on various topics including income taxation, estate taxation, charitable strategies, business succession, public policy, economics, history, and estate planning. His extensive planning experience and economic background brings a fresh perspective to LBMC’s Estate and Gift practice and further strengthens the foundation to take advantage of opportunities and avoid pitfalls for clients.
Dennis Metzler joins LBMC as leader of the firm’s International Tax practice. Metzler brings more than 30 years of public accounting, U.S. international tax compliance and consulting experience to LBMC. Metzler will focus on expanding the depth and breadth of the international tax practice in his role at LBMC with a focus on quality, client relationships, talent development and technology enablement.
Metzler is a recognized speaker and writer on U.S. international tax subjects and has served U.S.- and Canadian-based – global businesses seeking strategic advice on structuring investments both within and outside the United States. His experience includes U.S. domestic and international tax planning via entity selection, CFC planning, branch structuring, cross-border debt financing, treaty optimization, and the development of merger/acquisition and repatriation strategies.
To help clients manage their effective tax rates, Metzler frequently analyzes the use of sophisticated debt instruments and capital structures designed to enhance the tax efficiency of cross-border investments. With the enactment of U.S. tax reform and the various legislative packages since the COVID-19 pandemic, he has been assisting clients in managing the transition tax, analyzing the FDII and GILTI provisions and minimizing the impacts of interest expense limitations and the BEAT. He has extensive experience working with clients in the manufacturing technology and media/sports entertainment sectors, as well as private equity.
